All Change for 2008!

January 30th, 2008

Dear All (Fraisthorpe Campers, Self-Caterers and Workers & Friends of Fraisthorpe)

After the disappointment of Fraisthorpe ‘07, you will be pleased to hear that planning for Fraisthorpe 2008 is already under way. We are not expecting floods, earthquakes or anything that could cause another cancellation!

Fraisthorpe 2008 will see some changes:
We will have the upgraded, modern marquees of the metal frame type we had planned for Fraisthorpe 2007.

We will be trying to take camp security a step further to comply with modern standards. This will mean that all people on camp will be asked to wear the sort of wrist band now common at large events.

The biggest change is personnel!
Steve Reilly has had to stand down as Camp Leader due to the wonderful things happening in his church, the growth there, the new property development and the pressure of work which has resulted from it all.

Steve saw it all coming and had asked me to take on his role a while ago. I insisted I thought we could support him enough by creating the team of three (Leadership Team). The arrangement delayed the change but it was no surprise when Steve announced he could not continue. This time I failed to persuade him. You will have seen his own comments by now. We owe him so much and cannot thank him enough.

The team of three principle has worked very well and the enlargement of the camp in recent years would not have possible without that arrangement. We will therefore continue with a small team, this time of four people, John Hutch, Andy Lenton, Mike Reid and myself. Please hold us in your prayers, we will need it.

We intend to develop a team from the church ministers who attend to take on more of the oversight of the ministry which takes place on camp.

You will have heard that Sandra Hutchinson, the Camp Administrator, has also decided to step down from her role after many years of faithful service. We have interviewed and are pleased to announce that Wendy Horton from Dewsbury will become the new Camp Administrator. Wendy will be shadowing Sandra during the 2008 camp. Penny Hutchinson will continue in her role as Camp Bookings Secretary.

We were all so very sorry to hear of Steve Taylor’s illness and had become aware of the implication for our Camp as he seeks to manage his condition while calling upon God. The cancellation of Camp last year led to a hurriedly arranged event called ‘Live at Leeds’ (see report on page 7). The success of this event demonstrated that the team which Steve developed and mentored over the years has now come to maturity. It is they, under the leadership of Lamby (Steve Lamb) and Bex (Rebekah Cohen), that will carry on Live Set for 2008.

Booking Information:
Booking forms for Campers, Self-Caterers and Youth Village 2008 are now available. Workers will have received a booking form with thier newsletter.

The books closed for the ‘07 accounts on 31st December 2007. Due to financial losses from the ‘07 cancellation, no 2007 payments or unclaimed refunds can be carried over to this years camp.

I look forward to seeing you all at Fraisthorpe this year!

A Letter From Steve Reilly

January 30th, 2008

Some of the workers will have already heard this news, but here is his letter so you can hear it from Steve directly.

Dear Friends

The time has come for me to step down from my role at Fraisthorpe Camp. The coming year, 2008, will be my last on the Leadership Team and Camp Council.

I can’t remember when my first year at Camp was. I was introduced to Camp by my Youth Leader, Chris Marsden. He took me to visit for a day and I ended up as Sports Officer! It was either 1981 or 1982 so it is at least 25 years ago, I then took over as what was then known as ‘Commi’ in 1994.

It has been a massive privilege to serve God through Fraisthorpe. It is hard work but the fruit is more than worth it. We all know that the key to any organisation is ‘Team’. The workforce of Fraisthorpe is one big team with every part vital. It has been such a privilege for me to work with truly fantastic people.

My thanks go to the Camp Council who it has been a privilege to work with over the years. I want also to thank John Hutchinson and Graham Hutchinson who, along with me, have formed the Leadership Team over the last few years. Special thanks go to John who has co-led with me from when I took over. His input and support have been immense.

I need also to thank Sandra Hutchinson without who the Camp could never have run as well as it has.

Sandra is also stepping down after this years Camp. Sandra was Camp Secretary from 1984 until Penny Hutchinson took over 3 years ago. Sandra has worked alongside me as Camp Administrator from when I took over in 1994. Her commitment, input and work have been of the highest order.

I look forward to seeing you all at Camp this year.

The Lord bless you all as you continue to serve Him.

Steve Reilly

Self-catering Booking Form

Posting your booking forms: Please note, some people send booking forms with insufficient postage on them. This means there will be great delay in your booking as they wait until we go and collect them from the sorting office (and pay the excess postage). Postal charges have changed which means you must pay more postage if you use a large envelope. If in doubt - ask at your post office or visit the Post Office web site www.postoffice.co.uk.

By making a booking you are deemed to have agreed to our rules. Here is the rules PDF.

Changes to Self-Catering Fees – FAQ’s

How have the fees changed? - We will now be charging per person instead of per plot, as this is a fairer way of doing things – in effect it means that each person is paying for the facilities they are using. Other Elim camps use the same scale of charges!

What about individuals who want a plot to themselves? - Priority will be given to families/young people when allocating plots. We need to make sure that plots are allocated sensibly, or we will not have enough room for everyone who wants to attend camp. Single occupancy of plots will be at the discretion of the Bookings Secretary.

Why is there no reduction for lone parents? - They will only be paying for one adult, therefore it should work out cheaper than 2-parent families.

Will Superplots still be available? - Yes, a limited number will be available on a first come, first served basis. There is no extra charge for these but please book early to avoid disappointment.

Are there any discounts? - Yes, there’s a 10% saving for those who pay their balance in full before 1st May.

What about visitors who will be staying with me for a few days? - Please complete a self catering booking form for them, indicating which dates they will be staying. Adult visitors will pay £5 per night.
